2024-2025 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Moraine Valley Community College

Academic Success Workshop

Through a desire to create more equitable student outcomes, the Academic Success Workshop team used baseline post-intervention academic outcomes data and analysis to redesign the Standards of Academic Progress intervention for students placed on academic caution. When the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the workshop’s move to an online module, the team significantly increased assessment to improve academic outcomes and close identified equity gaps. Following a continuous improvement approach aligned with assessment and annual process improvement processes, the project expanded the college's understanding of the challenges students face by implementing a new survey to explore noncognitive life factors that impacted academic success. The online intervention was enhanced several times to better align with the data and feedback from students; outcomes show significant improvements and closing of all equity gaps.
