Bridging the Digital Gap: XRAIL and Cybersecurity Hub Catalyze Rural Workforce Innovation
Isothermal Community College’s (ICC) Extended Reality and Artificial Intelligence Lab (XRAIL) and Cybersecurity Hub are transformative digital makerspaces designed to expand access to emerging technologies and strengthen rural workforce innovation. These hubs provide hands-on AI, XR, and cybersecurity training for students, faculty, and industry partners, ensuring that rural communities remain competitive in an evolving digital economy. ICC recognizes that technology is constantly evolving and that rural institutions must adapt in real time. This build-as-we-go strategy has allowed ICC to offer workforce training while minimizing costs through strategic partnerships. The hubs serve as innovation spaces where students, educators, and local businesses can engage in experiential learning, cybersecurity awareness, and XR-driven training simulations. They support key regional industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, construction, and small business development. The innovative use of AI-driven automation, immersive XR experiences, and hands-on cybersecurity applications makes this a first-of-its-kind initiative, positioning ICC as a leader in workforce transformation.
