2024-2025 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Delta College

Transfer Pathways

Over the last several years, seven colleagues have worked together to introduce transfer pathways to the curriculum of Delta College. They created the first A.A. transfer pathways in psychology and history, implemented the necessary institutional changes to make them a reality, and established relationships with four-year institutions to accept students who complete these degree programs. The goal of a transfer pathway is for students to transfer to a four-year institution as a junior or senior with an associate’s degree in a specific general education field of study. Transfer pathways have helped boost interest in majoring in nonoccupational curricula and will increase the likelihood of students graduating from Delta College before they transfer. Research shows that students are more likely to complete a B.A. or B.S. if they graduate with a community college degree that meets the transfer requirements of their transfer institution. These pathways are a creative way to help bridge the gap between nonoccupational majors and transfer institutions and increase the success of students seeking to complete a bachelor’s degree.
