Help Is Here: A Mental Health and Wellness Resource App
Ohio House Bill 28 requires that all state colleges and universities offer suicide prevention programs and resources. Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) originally used a wellness-focused app from another community college, but the services were limited and could not be updated. The counseling department needed a new app to include the health and wellness programs initiated at Tri-C. To facilitate this, they reached out to Cleveland Codes, which is part of the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Computer Science’s Workforce Innovations department, to see if a student cohort could rewrite the app as part of a class project. Cleveland Codes cohort 18 developed the new app using React Native, a programming language that allows development of an app that can be run on Apple iOS or Android devices. Learning mobile development provided the students with a valuable skill that will help them in their information technology career paths.
