Biography:
I grew up in the community I now serve as a nursing instructor at the local community college, and I began my nursing career at Cape Fear Valley, our local hospital. Being able to teach future nurses in the same community where I trained and practiced has shaped my approach to nursing education and my commitment to preparing students for real-world patient care.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University and started my career in the Nurse Residency Program on the Progressive Care Unit at Cape Fear Valley. Within my first year, I transitioned to the Intensive Care Unit, which became my professional home for more than ten years. During this time, I developed strong critical-care expertise and a passion for mentoring nurses in high-acuity, fast-paced environments.
My career has included a variety of roles that influence my teaching today, including travel nursing, serving as a charge nurse in a busy ICU, working as a clinical educator for ICU, CVICU, and PCU units, and providing home infusion therapy for immunocompromised patients.
Since joining FTCC in October 2023, after my master's degree. I have taught NUR 211 and focus on strengthening students? critical thinking, prioritization, and confidence through active learning, simulation, and clinical application. My goal is to bridge the gap between theory and practice while supporting student success in a supportive learning environment.
Outside of work, my husband and I are raising our energetic six-year-old son along with a lively dog and two cats. I enjoy spending time outdoors, being with family and friends, and reading when time allows.
I am excited for each new semester and remain dedicated to helping students evolve into confident, competent nurses through innovation, critical thinking, and hands-on learning?both in the classroom and in simulation.
