Rebecca Cordero-Torres

 

Biography:
Rebecca Cordero-Torres joined Arizona Western College as an adjunct professor in December of 2011, later taken on the full-time role as Academic and Career Advisor for Veteran Services. Quickly, she advanced to her current position as Director of Military & Veteran Services. After graduating from High School, Rebecca enlisted in the Navy serving as an Aviation Maintenance Administration (AZ) at MALS-24, Kaneohe Bay HI. While serving in the military, she completed courses at Chaminade University of Honolulu, before transferring to Camp Pendleton, California, where she completed a BA in General Studies with concentrations in management and social sciences from National University. At the end of her service, she became an Aircraft Analyst for Camp Systems International in Wichita, Kansas where she discovered her passion for education. As an analyst she conducted many client trainings and produced learning materials to help clients understand maintenance tracking and FAA compliance. During this time, she went back to school to earn her MA in English from National University, and fulfilled a lifelong goal of becoming a high school English teacher at Kofa High school in Yuma, AZ. As a first-generation college graduate and daughter of a single mother, Rebecca has a passion and appreciation for education and advocates strongly for it; this directly led to her recognition as a stand-out teacher her first year. She later went on to higher education with the goal of serving the veteran community, leading to her current role as Director of Military & Veteran Services. In 2021, she was recognized by the Arizona Department of Veteran Services (AZDVS) during their Veteran Women?s Campaign for continued dedication and service to her community. Today you will find her searching for new ways to benefit the Military & Veteran community, and always ready to SERVE!
