Dreamscape Learn: Transforming Education Through Immersive Learning
Merced College’s Dreamscape Learn Lab—one of the first in the nation—is revolutionizing science education by integrating cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology into traditional learning environments. Launched in fall 2024, the VR lab transforms passive learning into an interactive, immersive experience. Students can shrink down to explore a human cell at the molecular level or journey through an intergalactic wildlife sanctuary where they interact with extraterrestrial species in a scientifically rich environment. Developed in collaboration with Arizona State University, the VR lab integrates cinematic storytelling with interactive simulations to make complex scientific concepts more accessible and engaging, enhancing student comprehension, retention, and success. Early feedback highlights increased student enthusiasm, deeper comprehension, and stronger retention of course material. Planned expansions include faculty-led scenarios and custom VR experiences.
