Nursing Assistant Integrated Education and Training
The Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs in Northland Pioneer College’s College and Career Prep division support students with low academic skills in efficiently preparing for careers, such as through Nurse Assistant Training (NAT). An eight-week IET-NAT pre-session stresses both classroom and workplace success, front-loading medical terminology, introducing workplace essential skills, and providing support in preparation for the High School Equivalency exam. The program continues with a one-semester Workforce Skills course, corequisite with NAT 101. Completers are eligible to take the Arizona State Board of Nursing exam to become a Certified or Licensed Nursing Assistant (CNA/LNA). Either credential may be used for employment, but the LNA is required for students who wish to apply for the college’s Associate Degree in Nursing program. It is also required by a growing number of employers. The IET-NAT model provides intensive academic support and advanced employment skills, significantly narrowing the time frame for certificate completion and fast-tracking students to living-wage employment as well as a gainful career ladder.
