Idea Lab: Digital Fluency Skills in the Making

The Idea Lab is a library initiative designed to support digital fluency skills development and media-rich assignments requiring fabrication, audio, video, photography, infographics, simple websites, and more. The initiative has four components: studios, workshops, online tools, and student supports. The Idea Lab offers a creative and unique blend of equipment, software, and supports open to students, staff, and faculty. The lab also fosters creativity by giving our communities the technology, spaces, and services required to make, create, and innovate. The team continues to research and recommend new equipment to allow creativity to be exhibited in new ways. The plan has always been to make Idea Lab initiatives sustainable and scalable. Now that all students have spaces and support to build their skills, assignments can be created across courses and programs to embed digital fluency skill development across curricula. Opportunities exist to reach more programs and to scaffold digital fluency skill development within a program, thereby reaching students at different levels of their learning.
