2021-2022 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Johnson County Community College

Virtual Site Visit Preparation

The Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Paralegal program is American Bar Association (ABA) approved. Approval, or reapproval, is a seven-year process that involves maintaining and reporting records similar to an HLC accreditation process, only at the program level. The first step is the written report, followed by a site visit. During the COVID-19 pandemic, site visits were virtual. The JCCC program developed a system for using Canvas, or any LMS, to gather, store, and maintain the documentation required that was also used for managing site visit meetings and document review sessions. The ABA virtual site visit team commented on how well organized and prepared our program was, saying they had never seen a program use the LMS as we had done to manage the reapproval process. We intend to use this system going forward so that the program chair or anyone who is given access to the LMS page can update and maintain the documentation.
