2021-2022 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Isothermal Community College

The Isothermal Global Distinction Program

The Global Distinction Program at Isothermal Community College aims to equip students with the skillset needed to successfully navigate the complexities of our interconnected world. In a global society, students increasingly encounter people of differing cultures, ethnicities, languages, and perspectives. Relating to those who come from other walks of life gives them a better chance of success in life. This program is a partnership between North Carolina community colleges and UNC-Chapel Hill’s Worldview program. Students discover what it means to be a global citizen and how they can apply this knowledge to academic, personal, and professional endeavors. It consists of four requirements: complete 15 credit hours in globally intensive courses, participate in eight international events, gain 30 hours of global experience in a study abroad or domestic intercultural experience, and deliver a capstone presentation. The capstone projects have included planning cultural events on campus, taking part in a virtual study abroad, and shooting and editing the trailer for a Bollywood film.
