2020-2021 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Carroll Community College

Hill Scholars Program

Carroll Community College’s Hill Scholars Program began in 2007 and continues to be a major reason many of Carroll County’s top students enroll at the college. Hill Scholars cohorts have ranged from 15-20 students in the early years to 25-30 full-time students per academic year. Scholars take general education courses together and participate in a variety of activities to prepare for transfer and beyond. Hill Scholars students are involved in many aspects of college life outside of the honors program, and have been selected for numerous awards and recognitions, including being invited to serve as graduation speakers. They also take part in retreats and go on trips. The innovator is a role model for these students and, in addition to serving as their teacher and mentor, has spent countless hours helping students overcome personal challenges.
