Yufeng Wang
Biography:
Dr. Yufeng Wang is a passionate and dedicated history and language professor known for her commitment to excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and community engagement. With a strong belief in immersive and experiential learning, she has created various opportunities for students to enhance their academic and leadership skills. She actively integrates hands-on cultural and historical experiences into her teaching, ensuring that students connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
Dr. Wang has been instrumental in developing and implementing unique educational initiatives at Sinclair. She established the weekly Chinese Experiential Learning Day, where students engage in language and cultural immersion activities like conversation with native speakers, calligraphy, strategy games, and more. She also organizes field trips to significant cultural and historical sites, including the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Dayton Woman?s Club, and the Dayton International Peace Museum, allowing students to gain firsthand insights into history and culture. Additionally, she played a key role in creating the annual East Asian Culture Immersion Day for the past four years, offering interactive sessions on Chinese brush painting, poetry readings, and cultural performances.
Beyond her classroom initiatives, Dr. Wang has made significant contributions to curriculum development. She helped create the East Asian Studies certificate program and designed Chinese language courses. As the US History coordinator, she developed Open Educational Resources (OER), and introduced flexible learning options for students. Her efforts in strengthening the Chinese CCP (College Credit Plus) program and mentoring students to establish a Chinese Language and Culture Club highlight her dedication to expanding language and international education at Sinclair College.
Dr. Wang has been active in history research, cultural presentations, and community outreach programs. She presented on topics such as women in ancient China, U.S.-China relations, and green energy at national and regional conferences, including the World History Association Annual Conference, Asian Studies Development Conference, and the Midwest Conference for International and Intercultural Education. Her collaborations with institutions like the Dayton Woman?s Club, the Cincinnati Asian Arts Festival, the Dayton International Art Museum, and Dayton Art in the City created added learning opportunities for her students and the community for experiential learning and cross-cultural understanding.
For her outstanding service and contributions, Dr. Wang has received numerous accolades, including the Dayton "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" award and Faculty Recognition at the SCC Faculty Awards. Her dedication to teaching excellence, student success, and community engagement continues to inspire and impact many.
