Kristina Ciarlo
Biography:
Kristina has been curious about behavioral health since taking her first psychology course. After continuing her studies in the field, she began her career in Boston, MA, as a clinician at a substance use treatment center. She then pursued a two-year assignment in Malawi with the Peace Corps, where she worked on health initiatives as a Community Health Counselor. For Kristina, these experiences highlighted the value of providing support to individuals who are navigating challenging times.
Upon returning to the U.S., Kristina worked for six years with the Colorado Department of Corrections, providing mental health services to individuals who are involved in the justice system. During this time, she once again witnessed the vital need for supportive and holistic behavioral health care.
Now serving as the Behavioral Health Department Chair at the Community College of Aurora, Kristina is dedicated to training the next generation of behavioral health professionals, equipping them with essential industry skills and knowledge. She is committed to addressing the behavioral health workforce gap by preparing students to enter the field sooner, emphasizing the importance of a team-based approach to care.
In addition to her leadership role, Kristina runs a weekly therapeutic group, maintaining a connection to clinical work. In her free time, she enjoys running, crafting, baking, and adventuring with her partner and two dogs.
