Hau Nguyen
Biography:
Hau Nguyen is currently the Chair/Coordinator and Distinguished Faculty of the Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) Department at Grossmont College in the San Diego area. He started his career in the software and telecommunications industry over 25 years ago. Over the past few decades, he has also worked at numerous companies and government agencies in the area of Unmanned Vehicles, Big Data, Cybersecurity, Networking, Data Centers, and Information Systems, holding various positions in engineering and management.
He has been teaching college and university courses for over 25 years in areas such as Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Management Information Systems. He holds graduate degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as an MBA.
He has developed innovative courses, certificates, and degrees in Cybersecurity as well as Artificial Intelligence.
He has designed the Cybersecurity Program at Grossmont College to be recognized as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) to benefit students. He has developed new teaching methods that have helped innovate both his online teaching and in-class participation.
He has coached Grossmont College students to participate in the SoCal CyberCup and National Cyber League competitions. Grossmont College students have succeeded in outperforming all Southern California Community Colleges in the SoCal CyberCup competition, bringing home the 1st place trophy and $5,500 award to Grossmont College.
He has created the Computer Science and Cybersecurity Organization at Grossmont College to help foster a space for tech hobbyists and other career-oriented computer science and cybersecurity majors to come together and collaborate.
He has been involved with getting Grossmont College connected to key industry organizations through the San Diego Border Region Talent Pipeline Verified Program. He has worked to certify all the CSIS Department degree programs to provide paid summer internships to students.
He has spoken at numerous speaking engagements at local high schools, Adult-reentry, STEM, and career-related events to promote computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, and artificial intelligence.
He has created monthly off-campus socials to encourage relationships and collaboration amongst faculty. He has also hosted several meetings to bring faculty from local community colleges and universities together to share ideas and discuss how to better improve curriculum for students.
