Erainia Freeman
Biography:
Dr. Erainia Freeman is the Dean of Academic Success, Inclusion, and Support Services at Long Beach City College. She has over 25 years of expertise and knowledge in working with community college students.
Dr. Freeman's experience at Long Beach City College is extensive and diverse. She provides leadership with Cultural Learning Communities, The Black Student Success Center, Re-Engagement, the new Postsecondary Achievement and Success Opportunity (PASO), and the Success and Completion Achievement Network (SCAN) grants. The PASO and SCAN grants provide crucial support to Adult Learners/Indirect Matriculant Students.
Dr. Freeman specializes in leading programs and initiatives that support disproportionately impacted students and is committed to creating an environment and space for students to feel seen, heard, and valued at Long Beach City College.
Some of her most recent initiatives have provided services that assist students with the financial, social, and academic support needed to re-engage at the college. Dr. Freeman is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals, which can change the trajectory of their lives.
Dr. Freeman joined Long Beach City College as a full-time tenure-track Counselor and Professor in 2000. During that time, she worked as the Counseling Department Head, full-time Counselor, Psychology Professor, and a former Umoja Community Board Member.
Dr. Freeman, along with her colleagues, played a pivotal role in reviving the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) at Long Beach City College. BFSA provides support, advocacy, a safe space, and a community to employees who identify as Black, African, African American, and Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). Dr. Erainia Freeman currently serves as the president of the BFSA.
To support the Long Beach community, Dr. Freeman has volunteered to serve on the Board of Directors of Childnet for the past six years. She has also served as a past 2018 -2019 Board President. Childnet is a non-profit organization that provides safe homes, education, and counseling services to vulnerable children in foster care.
Dr. Freeman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Long Beach, a Master of Arts degree in the field of Psychology from Pepperdine University, and a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University.
