Biography:
Of Mexican descent from the highlands of Jalisco, Dr. Becerra was born and raised in Castroville, a small farm-working community just 7 miles north of Salinas, California. This experience permeates every aspect of his professional career and allows him to empathize with students and adults of traditionally underserved backgrounds. Throughout his personal and professional life, he has maintained a focus on addressing inequity in education. His educational experience includes a bachelor?s degree in sociology from UC Santa Cruz, a master?s degree in counseling from San Diego State University, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Harvard University. As the Director of Student Equity at Long Beach City College, Dr. Becerra continues to demonstrate his commitment to education, equity, and community empowerment. He firmly believes that every student should be inspired to dream and empowered to act, thus allowing the limits of their imagination to serve as the only barrier to their success.
