Karla Aguiñiga
Biography:
Karla Agui?iga, serves as the Art Gallery and Exhibitions Manager at Long Beach City College. She chairs the Public Art Advisory Group. Under her guidance, this group has proudly unveiled two murals on campus. The first, a vibrant creation by Chicano artist Paul Botello, and the second, an evocative piece by 3B Collective. These murals epitomize LBCC's unwavering dedication to fostering a campus environment where student voices are not only heard but celebrated.
Agui?iga is commitment to nurturing emerging talent by creating the Student Art Prize, slated to debut in 2024. This prize will honor the top three students from the annual student art exhibition, further motivating and recognizing excellence within LBCC's artistic community.
Prior to her tenure at LBCC, Agui?iga honed her craft at renowned institutions including the UCLA Hammer Museum, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Material Art Fair in Mexico City, and the Chicago Artists Coalition. Hailing originally from Tijuana, Mexico, she migrated to the United States in her early adulthood, and this experience has nourished her passion for social justice. Agui?iga holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Los Angeles and a Master of Arts in Art Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
