Biography:
I am a dedicated professional with a passion for advancing the field of occupational therapy (OT), with a diverse background encompassing education, leadership, community service, and collaborative initiatives. My journey includes valuable experiences that have shaped my commitment to inclusive teaching, community engagement, and the mentorship of future practitioners. I am an Occupational Therapist and Program Director at San Jacinto College ? South Campus, leading the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program. My educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch. I recently completed my Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate in 2023, focusing on faculty?s psychological safety to support student success through inclusive teaching practices. In a directorial role, I focused on reducing costs for students through program material consolidations, designing and maintaining an online platform for new student orientation, and successfully planning and executing numerous Accreditation for Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) accreditation requirements to ensure excellent quality education within the program. Additionally, I strategically collaborated with the college?s marketing team to highlight the OTA program through innovative digital media campaigns and published articles to bring awareness to the OT profession and the OTA program. Lastly, I have designed a holistic new-hire onboarding process to help guide and mentor new educators toward a successful onboarding experience in academia and create an environment of inclusion. As an instructor, I guide my teaching style by utilizing inclusive teaching practices, principles of psychological safety, and critical thinking to support the next generation of OT practitioners through experiential community-based learning opportunities, intradisciplinary collaborations, and engaging hands-on flipped classroom models. I have completed an ACUE certificate in Effective College Instruction and Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning to enhance my commitment to inclusive teaching for student success. Additionally, I enjoy educating others through conference presentations at state and national levels and serving on committees focused on curriculum development, inclusivity initiatives, and student advocacy. My passion as an educator and leader is characterized by a commitment to education, clinical excellence, and service, with a focus on inclusivity, mentorship, and advancing the field of occupational therapy. ?Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.? ?
