Zach Cembellin

 

Biography:
Zach Cembellin is a lifelong south bay resident and grew up and still lives in San Jose, CA. Zach attended Chico State University for his undergraduate work and received a BS in applied mathematics in 2005. Zach then went on to receive his MS in applied mathematics from CSU Eastbay in 2008. Zach worked various jobs in education including part-time faculty positions at San Mateo College, West Valley College, and CSU Eastbay during and after his masters degree. Eventually, after initially starting as a STEM Center tutor at Foothill College in 2008, he worked his way into a part-time mathematics faculty position. From there, he obtained a full-time tenure track position in mathematics, earning tenure during the 2014-2015 year. Zach served as the Foothill College's mathematics department chair from 2019-2022 and from there, took on an acting STEM Division dean position. Along the way, Zach also took on an interim position as STEM Division dean, then eventually obtained the permanent dean position, for which he still holds. Zach is the creator of the Emerging Technologies Institute (ETI) at Foothill College. He also created and still chairs the AI Learning Community through Foothill that extends district wide and to others across the state and the local community. He currently chairs the AI Fellows Program at Foothill College while serving in his dean role. Zach is passionate about emerging STEM research and technology, and his motivation for creating the Emerging Technologies Institute comes from that along with his vested interest in educating the next generation of students to become productive and ethical contributors to our global society.
