Eun-Woo Chang


Dr. Eun-Woo Chang is currently serving as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer at Northern Virginia Community College. Dr. Chang has more than 25 years of experience in higher education as both a faculty member and as an administrator. His personal ethos places great value in community college education and for that reason, much of his professional experience and personal accomplishments have been dedicated to strengthening two-year institutions. Dr. Chang served at the Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada for 17 years, where he started as an adjunct faculty. He then became a tenured professor of Chemistry, Chair of the Physical Science Department, Faculty Senate Chair, and a member of several college-wide and statewide leadership committees. In addition, he was appointed as the Interim Dean of Mathematics and Sciences at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. After serving as a program director in the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, VA, he became the Dean of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics at Montgomery College in Maryland and eventually Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. Before joining Northern Virginia Community College in July 2021, Dr. Chang served as Provost of Ashland University in Ohio. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Chang secured multi -million dollar funding from federal and nonprofit funding agencies, the business sector, and private donors to promote higher education, especially for community colleges. Several new academic programs and initiatives were launched to provide opportunities for students and to help the regional communities with the funds he secured. During 2004-2005, Dr. Chang became a member of the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows, a prestigious leadership cohort selected by ACE. In 2010, he was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the largest scientific society in the United States, for his dedicated service and contributions. Dr. Chang served as chair and councilor of the Sierra Nevada Section and as a member of the International Activities Committee of ACS. Currently, he is an active member of the Chemistry and Public Affairs Committee of ACS. Dr. Chang has also served on several important advisory boards, such as the Ohio Health Governance Advisory Board at Mansfield. Dr. Chang earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry in South Korea and an M.A. degree in Chemistry from Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN. After receiving a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, he became a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Chemistry at Harvard University.
