Biography:
Sheila Woods is a seasoned educator and industry professional, currently in her ninth year as an instructor in Accounting and Business at Alvin Community College (ACC). Before transitioning to teaching full-time, she enjoyed a successful 20-year career in accounting and finance, holding various leadership roles that equipped her with a deep expertise and practical insights into the business world. This real-world experience informs her teaching, allowing her to create an engaging and applied learning environment for the students.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Sheila plays an active role on campus, serving on several committees, including the Faculty Senate (Vice-President) and the Adjunct Advisory Committee. Most notably, Sheila served on the committee that developed ACC?s first bachelor?s degree program?a landmark achievement that broadened access to higher education and career advancement for students in the community.
Sheila holds current CPA and CTP licenses, and remains committed to professional development, regularly attending workshops and conferences to align the curriculum with evolving industry standards. Her approach to teaching emphasizes critical thinking, real-world application, and the development of transferable skills that empower students to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.
Beyond the classroom, Sheila is passionate about mentorship and community engagement. She frequently participates in initiatives that promote financial literacy and business innovation and takes pride in guiding students and new faculty members toward achieving their goals.
As a lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Sheila values the opportunity to help students build a strong foundation in accounting and business. Her blend of industry experience and academic expertise along with her contributions continue to have a lasting impact on both students and the institution.
