Reimaging Honors Through Real-World, Student-Driven Leadership
The Honors Leadership Program is a three-course sequence built to support students across all pathways. It is designed to help students to lead meaningful changes, connect with their community, and walk away with transferable skills. Beginning with an introduction to honors and leadership through the lens of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), students explore PTK’s mission and how its focus on scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship aligns with their goals. They start to connect their own strengths and interests to leadership pathways within their program of study. Students then dive into a leadership development course: building a community impact project. Students are paired with a variety of stakeholders and are given the time and structure to explore real issues and design events or initiatives that directly connect to their career and academic interests. By the second semester, students put their plans into action, working through the challenges of logistics, teamwork, and community engagement. They gather feedback, adapt their approach, and start to measure impact. In the final/capstone course, students present their work, reflect, and build a professional portfolio that highlights what they’ve learned.
