2022-2023 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: St. Louis Community College

Biomanufacturing, Research and Technical Training (BRaTT)

In an age when employees are few and the expectations put upon them are great, training that is more than the average bachelor’s degree program is required. St. Louis Community College (STLCC) delivers the Biomanufacturing, Research and Technical Training (BRaTT) course to do just that: bridge the gap between the two. To achieve this goal, STLCC BRaTT instructors have teaching and industry experience to both teach topics and instill the habits of an accomplished technician. BRaTT is a five-day course for incoming employees in the biotechnology Industry. With a seemingly endless stockpile of methods, including traditional lecturing, videos, homework, and related laboratory experiments, students gain experience and confidence in basic lab skills. By the end of the BRaTT week, each student feels competent on laboratory and production floors and often, more importantly, confident about the questions they need to ask.
