2022-2023 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Saskatchewan Polytechnic

My First Five

Because Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a technical institution, our students are in class for most of the day, with minimal breaks in between. Therefore, we have limited time to educate the student body on the services available to them while creating a sense of school spirit, pride, and belonging. Feedback from previous years indicated that too much information was being shared in too short a time. With this in mind, we created a virtual orientation series—My First Five. This allowed students to learn about our services in a timely manner through a more calm, holistic, and interactive transition into postsecondary. Virtual session attendance was overwhelming. We hosted a Navigating Saskatchewan Polytech presentation, for which over 275 students registered, and Q&A sessions, which were attended by 1,350 students.
