2022-2023 Innovation of the Year Award Winner: Pima Community College District

PimaFastTrack

In response to employment equity gaps, Pima Community College (PCC) designed and launched noncredit micro-pathways—PimaFastTrack (PFT)—co-designed by faculty, employers, and learners. Based on local workforce needs, PCC offers programs in IT, emergency medical services, automotive, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and health information technology. PFT is taught by the same faculty who teach credit courses and the programs are based on the current college curriculum. Designing training that delivers in-demand skills in as little time as possible, with as much flexibility as possible, was critical. To increase engagement and remove barriers, PCC implemented Community and Corporate Navigators (CCNs). CCNs assist with advising, planning, and scheduling activities, but also work with learners to address barriers to enrollment and persistence. The CCNs guide learners through each step in the process, including assisting with enrollment into certificate or degree programs utilizing PCC’s prior learning assessment and connecting learners to PCC’s Employer Engagement and Career Services for assistance with employment-related needs.
