Innovative Professors Facilitate Metaverse Integration in Workforce Curriculum: The Future Is Now

In the summer of 2020, when the world was shut down, we began exploring how we could use technology to connect with our students. This led to our first collaboration with XR Lab and our first immersive spaces. The metaverse refers to a virtual world that is composed of multiple interconnected virtual environments where users can interact with each other in a digital space. This innovative approach to course development meets the workforce students’ need for hands-on, active learning and allows for personalized learning experiences. This online course development can be replicated in a variety of programs across the system and at other institutions. The approach also provides a simulated real-world scenario and more interactive learning for students. Fashion was the first immersive space provided. This technology will be expanded to include Visual Merchandising, Fashion History, and Pastry Arts Food Management.
