Silo Smashing for Student Success: Positioning Academic and Nonacademic Staff as Changemakers

Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Student Success Certificate is a distinctive professional development program that engages academic and nonacademic staff to build leadership skills and strengthen interpersonal relationships. The program cultivates a culture of care while providing groundwork for future student-centered practices. The Student Success Certificate is unique in that it unifies administrators, faculty, and staff as participants through a series of eight live workshops, asynchronous chat threads, and job shadowing designed by co-teams of one faculty member and one student services staff member from advising, financial aid, student support, enrollment management, etc. The certificate prompts faculty and student affairs teaming up as leaders to develop and implement their own student success strategies, positioning participants to be changemakers and to cultivate a sense of unified college culture.
