The Good School Podcast

The Good School podcast was created in 2020 with a $40,000 Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowship grant. Being a learner-centered instructor, the podcast creator identified students and a podcast crew to learn how to be podcast producers through her production house—ForReal Media. Twelve students developed the theme of what makes a good school. Once the theme was determined, the students quickly became podcast writers, producers, researchers, and on-air talent. The creator taught, inspired, and coached them through every stage of this detailed process. She and her students created weekly episodes that focused on national collegiate issues such as the application process, faculty, college rankings, and students. The podcast officially launched on March 2, 2023. The creator and her students participated in a Q&A session hosted by NPR Senior Editor and Pulitzer Prize winner Cheryl Thompson and were welcomed by WYPR Senior Producer Aaron Henkin. In addition to the launch, the Good School podcast was written about in Inside Higher Ed and on BestColleges.com.
