The Engineering Technology Department is seeking applicants for a full time temporary faculty member in the Optical Systems Technology program for the Spring 2018 semester. The temporary assignment will convert to a Full-Time Tenure-Track position in the Fall of 2018. Optics Systems Technology is housed in MCC’s Engineering Technologies Department along with Construction Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Technology.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:


The successful candidate will, in addition to teaching responsibilities, be willing to assist the Optics Program Coordinator. These responsibilities include working with the local optics industry to promote and build enrollments in the program, master schedule management, student recruitment, industry collaboration, strengthening existing and creating new transfer and articulation agreements, career placement, and working as a liaison for workforce development training opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering/Technology, Imaging Science, or related technical discipline from a regionally accredited higher education institution, or comparable industrial experience in the optics or electronics industry
  • Industrial experience in the areas of optical manufacturing and testing
  • Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills
  • Experience in the successful design or implementation of student recruitment and retention strategies or comparable experience (such as marketing new products) within business or industry
  • Evidence of effective service to an academic department, division, or college in a previous teaching position or comparable experience (such as involvement in product design/testing/marketing) within business or industry
  • Evidence of a commitment to continued professional growth
  • Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus
  • Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
  • Maintains appropriate academic standards
  • Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience
  • Earned master’s degree in Optics or related technical discipline from a regionally accredited higher education institution
  • Experience with the use of programmable logic controllers and/or automated systems in industrial production applications
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies
  • Awareness of the potential value of technology as a tool for teaching, writing, and research
  • Experience and/or interest in teaching online courses.
  • Ability to develop collaborative, multidisciplinary relationships that bridge traditional educational boundaries
  • Understanding of the integrated nature of technology and the ability to translate knowledge into relevant curriculum
  • Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus
  • Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
