Technical Assistant, Environmental Health and Safety

Function of Position:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Public Safety, Division of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), the Technical Assistant provides support services to ensure compliance of safety programs mandated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), NYS Fire and Building Code, National Fire Protection (NFPA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Labor (DOL). Duties support the College's management of risk, liability, and regulatory compliance to achieve Monroe Community College College's goal of providing a safe and healthy workplace and academic environment while minimizing major financial losses caused by non-compliance.

Primary Functions:

Supports the Fire Safety Program including maintaining required documentation and databases, assisting in fire equipment inspections and fire drills and performing other duties as needed
Assists the EHS Systems Specialist in maintaining MCC security systems
Maintains an up-to-date campus-wide Hazardous Chemical Inventory and Safety Data Sheet Library
Maintains detailed records of all work related accidents, injuries, and illnesses
Ensures mandatory safety inspections/testing, required by OSHA, the DEC, and the EPA are scheduled with outside contractors and completed within the required timeframe, maintaining the appropriate documentation
Performs monthly eyewash and emergency shower testing
Tests and maintains the automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
Provides assistance to departments regarding maintaining employee safety training compliance, including initial, annual, and periodic
Performs duties in support of various required safety programs including Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, and Respirator Programs

Secondary Functions:

Assists in emergency response, as needed
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Public Safety, Environmental Health and Safety Division

Required Qualifications:

Earned associate degree in a safety related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
A minimum of three years of experience in the health and safety field
Valid New York State Class D Driver's License
Must be able to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

Working experience in a health and safety related field
Strong PC skills in Word and Excel
Experience in maintaining program compliance
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Good written and verbal communication skills
