Program Advisor, Upward Bound Programs

Function of Position:

The Program Advisor assists the Program Director with the coordination of the academic services and activities of the Upward Bound Classic and Math and Science Programs at Monroe Community College (UB@MCC). They will provide personal, career, and academic advising and counseling to program students at the Rochester City School District (RCSD) target schools. The Program Advisor reports to the Program Director.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
•Maintain an assigned caseload of program students
•Provide personal, career, and academic advising and counseling to students and their parents
•Coordinate the academic and tutorial service component
•Recruit, train, assign, and supervise tutors and mentors
•Collect and collate all counseling and mentoring contacts
•Assist the Program Director in coordinating student and family initiatives of the program
•Maintain on-going relationships with RCSD target schools, colleges and community agencies
•Co-coordinate the summer program
•Assume program oversight in the absence of the Program Director
•Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Program Director and Program Coordinator

Required Qualifications:
•Earned bachelor's degree in education, social work or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
•Two years teaching, advising or counseling in a related field
•Experience working with students from low-income, first-generation, diverse ethnic or urban disadvantage backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:
•Demonstrated experience coordinating academic activities and event programming for high school age students
•Demonstrated success in overcoming the academic and economic challenges, faced by students in the UB@MCC Programs
