Director, MCC Virtual Campus and Instructional Technologies

Function of Position:

The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Instructional Services. The Director provides leadership and strategic direction for online learning and instructional development at Monroe Community College. The Director manages the MCC Virtual Campus consistent with the goals of improving student retention, ensuring quality of online course delivery, and increasing enrollment. The Director leads the Instructional Technologies team in support of online and hybrid course development and the exploration and implementation of emerging technologies to enhance the teaching and learning process. The team supports faculty through instructional design consultations, instructional technology training, multimedia production services, and student concierge support.

The Director works in close collaboration with academic departments and programs, workforce development, and student services to identify, develop, and deliver appropriate online offerings and support services. This position will seek new external partnerships to enhance and fund online programs and offerings. The Director will lead operational and administrative functions relating to the MCC Virtual College.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
•Leads activities of the Instructional Technologies department, promotes their services to the College, and assists with the promotion, expansion, and application of instructional tools and learning resources
•Provides leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational innovations to enhance and deliver the curriculum, improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-rich teaching, and advance curricular innovation
•Provides leadership for MCC's Virtual Campus and support for faculty; coordinates all ongoing activities associated with delivering courses through the Virtual Campus; serves as liaison to faculty, student services, and institutional leadership
•Collaborates with College faculty, deans, chairs, MCC Libraries, Teaching and Creativity Center (TCC), Technology Services, and others within the College to support and enhance the teaching and learning environment
•Collaborates with deans to integrate course delivery and program development, to ensure operational consistency with Academic Services goals, and to assist in the development and assessment of the college's online learning program
•Works closely with Academic Departments, Curriculum Office, and Economic Development & Innovative Workforce Services (EDIWS) to identify and support development of new curriculum and quality online courses and programs to increase student options and expand current markets
•Provides leadership in ensuring the integrity of the online learning environment including identity verification, ADA compliance, and testing
•Provides leadership and strategic direction for the Open SUNY initiative as well as other external projects and initiatives
•Coordinates and promotes training and professional development for faculty related to classroom technologies, online, and distance learning methods
•Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
•Earned a master's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution
•A minimum of three years' experience in an academic position related to online learning and instructional technologies.
•Demonstrated experience and strength in policy development, project planning, budget development, and supervisory experience.
•A minimum of three years' experience in online teaching, instructional design, or course development
•Demonstrated knowledge of trends and practices in online learning including course design, program development, marketing, student support, and retention
•Knowledge of emerging technologies and developments impacting teaching and learning
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and the ability to facilitate communication within the college and with key constituencies
•Evidence of ability to maintain effective and collegial working relations with staff, students, faculty, and administration
•Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, enhancing student success, and advancing customer service

Preferred Qualifications:
•Earned master's degree in instructional design, education, curriculum/instructional development, instructional technology or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
•Professional experience in a community college setting
•Experience with regional or state-wide online learning consortiums (e.g. OpenSUNY, DOODLE, etc.)
