Function of Position:

This is a 12-month, 32 hours/week position that reports to the Assistant Director of the Counseling Center & Disability Services and is under the general supervision of the Director of the Counseling Center & Disability Services. The primary function of the Counselor is to provide college-wide counseling, programming, and outreach initiatives, support systems, resources, and activities that will enable students to be successful from initial enrollment to completion. Responsibilities include assessment, referral, short-term personal/behavioral health counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention and stabilization of students who are presenting with distress, mental health issues/challenges or who exhibit a need for support in navigating the developmental process. Additionally, the Counselor is responsible for broad and general academic advisement and general career counseling services to special populations. This position is also responsible for engaging, developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with students, staff, faculty and administrators within a comprehensive community college setting.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
•Provide short-term counseling services to students addressing mental health concerns or issues influencing their overall wellbeing, academic success or quality of life
•Provide crisis intervention/triage services to students in distress
•Assist with the development and provision of group counseling services as needed.
•Provide students with informational, evidenced-based psycho-educational programming that is aligned with departmental goals and approved by the supervisor
•Serve as a liaison to develop and coordinate outreach initiatives and collaborate with various college-wide departments (i.e., Residence Life, Athletics, Schools etc.) to promote programming to enhance student mental health and wellbeing
•Maintain accurate and thorough records of appropriate clinical documentation on all student and consultation contacts
•Participate on campus committees as approved by the supervisor
•Participate in individual and group supervisory meetings as designated and appropriate
•Assist in planning for present and future clinical services and utilization of best practice and evidence-based treatment models and initiatives
•Make appropriate clinical referrals for students when outside the Center's scope of practice and service
•Assist with the assessment of counseling services
•Serve as a behavioral health resource and work collaboratively with Health Services and other departments to provide college-wide behavioral health programming initiatives.
•Provide career and student development programs/workshops and interpret personality and educational tests for student populations
•Offer mentoring, modeling, and collegial consultation support to psychology/counseling interns, as appropriate
•Perform other duties and responsibilities that contribute to the service offerings of the department and mission of the College assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of the Counseling Center & Disability Services
