Counselor, Educational Opportunity Program

Function of Position:

The Counselor reports to the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program and provides academic support services for academically and economically disadvantaged students who are New York State residents. This is a 10-month position located at the Brighton Campus (September 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019).

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
•Interview prospective program students
•Counsel program students on a regularly scheduled basis in terms of their personal and academic needs
•Collaborate with students and faculty to enhance successful academic performance of program participants
•Maintain records on each student's academic progress and personal growth and complete final evaluations on each student
•Advise, register, and assist program students with necessary financial aid forms
•Assist the Director in the interviewing, screening, and admission of all students
•Conduct exit interviews, and annually gather data and prepare follow-up reports on students who have left programs
•Gather information for evaluating the effectiveness of various aspects of the EOP
Secondary Functions:
•Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director

Required Qualifications:
•Earned Master's degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Student Personnel Administration or a closely related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution

Preferred Qualifications:
•Minimum of two years' experience in Counseling or student personnel work
•Experience working with academically and economically disadvantaged students
•Community college experience
