Sciences for Health Programs provides required pre-requisite courses for students wishing to enter the health care field. The department serves to prepare students for successful admission to and completion of their chosen Health Science Program by providing a comprehensive health core and science foundation tailored to the curriculum requirements of myriad Health Science Programs. Sciences for Health Programs at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Physiology to promote and encourage student success through quality instruction and real-world learning experiences beginning Spring 2020.
Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Physiology will develop, prepare and teach a variety of coursework. Faculty may be assigned to SF’s Northwest campus or any of the College’s six educational centers. Candidates must have the flexibility to teach at any one of these different sites throughout the academic year. Additionally, course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats. Full-time faculty have a primary nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring; teaching opportunities beyond contractual obligations, including during the summer may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.
Responsibilities and duties include:
• Plan, organize, and instruct human anatomy and physiology curriculum in classroom and laboratory settings promoting student subject mastery and success.
• Work with other faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curricula and pedagogical methods that enhance student mastery of course content and student success after they enter a Health Science Program, such as Nursing or Allied Health.
• Support the mission of the department and college to promote student learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, faculty scholarship, professional development and service to the college.
• Work a flexible schedule at multiple sites.
• Teach in on-line and hybrid environments, including instruction via Learning Management Systems.
• Assist with the implementation of college policies, procedures and practices in accordance with college philosophy, mission, and values.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committee work and service to the college as requested.
• Strictly honor the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to state, federal, and college regulations, policies and procedures.
• Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Chair, Sciences for Health Programs
Required: A Master’s degree in a qualifying field of Biological Sciences or a master’s degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate course hours in any combination of the qualifying fields is required. A professional degree (MSN, MD, DO, DC, DVM, PT, OT) or other advanced clinical degree may be accepted as fulfilling the degree requirements. Additional Requirements: A criminal background will be conducted.
Preferred: It is preferred that the candidate be eligible to teach additional course(s) offered by the department, which are Chemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition, Introduction to Health Care, Medical Terminology or Physics with Medical Applications. Candidates with teaching experience and the ability to incorporate appropriate instructional technology and productivity tools into coursework are also preferred.
