2003-Present

Project Director and Consultant, League for Innovation in the Community College

Responsible for College and Career Transitions Initiative and serves as Senior Consultant for Workforce Development.

 

2001–2003

Community College Liaison, United States Department of Labor, Washington, DC

Serve as liaison to community colleges and community college organizations such as the American Association of Community Colleges and the League for Innovation in the Community College. Provide vision and leadership in the development of collaborative efforts between DOL and community colleges.

 

1994-2001

Vice President for Instruction, Lane Community College, Eugene, Oregon

Responsible for the supervision of the instructional programs and support services. Included some forty divisions/departments that consist of the instructional programs provided to over 40,000 students enrolling annually. Instructional programs included fifty vocational-technical programs; a full-range of transfer courses, continuing and community education, and developmental education programs. Financial responsibility included oversight of budgets totaling approximately $35 million in general funds plus approximately $10 million in grant funds. Also responsible for the college’s Foundation, college-wide professional development, economic development, and served as the representative to the League for Innovation in the Community College.

 

1991-1994

Vice President for Community & Economic Development, Lane Community College, Eugene, Oregon

Responsible to the College President for the supervision of approximately forty percent of the college’s instructional programs including continuing education; Business Development Center; Adult Basic and Secondary Education; Customized Contract Training; Specialized Employment Services; Training and Development for dislocated workers, welfare recipients, and other target populations; Senior Programs; and numerous other economic development activities of the college. Responsible for Institutional Advancement departments including Public Relations, Marketing, LCC Foundation, Publications, and Printing and Graphics. Responsibilities also included supervision of the Research, Planning and Evaluation office and KLCC Public Radio. Matrix (college-wide) management responsibilities for intergovernmental relations and professional staff development. Led the college’s effort to help transition local economy from timber-based to high tech.

 

1986-1991

Executive Dean, Lane Community College, Eugene, Oregon

One of four executive line administrators reporting to the College President. Direct supervisory responsibilities for public relations, marketing, foundation, research, planning and evaluation. Served as legal liaison to college counsel and as affirmative action officer. Worked closely with the College President on Board of Education and community relations including responsibility for passage of several tax referendums. Served as college representative to the League for Innovation.

Responsible to the President for a variety of administrative and governance functions of the college. Specific responsibility for budget administration, Affirmative Action compliance review, Board of Education, and community relations.

1978-1982

Assistant Dean of Instruction, Lane Community College, Eugene, Oregon

Responsible to the Dean of Instruction for management of budget, curriculum, staffing, and productivity. Responsible for a variety of planning activities for the instructional branch of the college. Member of the management team for collective bargaining, which successfully negotiated contracts for faculty and classified unions.

1977-1978

Field Associate/Consultant, American Association of Community and Junior Colleges, Washington, D.C.

Responsible for working with community colleges nationally to foster closer working relationships among community colleges, local schools, and other community agencies. Organized conferences, gave presentations, and consulted with community college personnel regarding community-based programs and services.

1968-1977

Dean of Adult and Community Education, Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, Iowa

Responsible for the operation of the Adult/Community Education Division of the college. Managed a general fund budget of $800,000 plus numerous grants. Program was expanded from 2,000 to 37,000 annual enrollments as a result of numerous cooperative agreements with community agencies.

1967-1969

Assistant Dean of Vocational Education, Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, Iowa

Established and supervised several post-secondary vocational preparatory programs. Designed curriculum, organized advisory committees, and staffed programs. Taught business courses on a part-time basis.

1965-1967
