Speaking Fees and Details
The Service
Division does not have one-size-fits-all, pre-packaged, pre-priced
programs and activities. Instead, we discuss your specific goals
with you and customize each engagement by providing national experts
in the field specifically targeted toward your college’s special
needs.
Speaking
Fees
Typically, $2,000 to $5,000 a day, plus reimbursable expenses,
depending on the topic, Guest Speaker or Consultant selected, and
other pertinent factors.
The League
handles all negotiations and billings between colleges and Guest
Speakers or Consultants.
Colleges are
provided the opportunity to discuss the engagement with Guest Speakers
or Consultants being considered before making a final decision.
The League
provides a formal Letter of Agreement once a Guest Speaker or
Consultant has been confirmed and a topic, date(s), fees, and other
pertinent factors have been agreed upon.
Letters of
Agreement
are between the League for Innovation and the college and between the
League for Innovation and the Guest Speaker or Consultant.
Reimbursable Expenses
The League is
reimbursed for ordinary and reasonable travel, hotel, meal, and other
costs associated with performing the Service. Reimbursable costs are
segregated on the invoice and may include but are not limited to the
following:
-
Airfare
-
Meals
-
Hotel
accommodations for night prior to presentation, although sometimes
an additional night is needed based on the presentation or
consulting schedule and available departure flights
-
Airport
parking, if necessary
-
Ground
transportation to and from airports (e.g., rental car, taxi,
shuttle), if necessary
-
Materials, if
necessary
Payment
Schedule
Colleges should
plan to provide payment to the League for the Service provided and
reimbursable expenses within 30 business days of receiving the
invoice.
Cancellations
Cancellation
by the College
Once an engagement is confirmed, that date, as well as the surrounding
time necessary to get the Guest Speaker or Consultant to and from the
engagement, is secured on his or her calendar. Consequently, a late
cancellation costs Guest Speakers and Consultants income from the
cancelled engagement, as well as income from engagements turned down
because the date was already secured.
-
If the college
cancels an engagement after an Agreement has been signed but before
the engagement has commenced, the college is obligated to reimburse
the League for all expenses incurred.
-
If the college
cancels the Service during the engagement, the college is obligated
to reimburse the League all expenses incurred and an agreed-upon
prorated fee based on percentage of completion.
Cancellations by
Guest Speakers or Consultants
Although cancellations by Guest Speakers and Consultants are rare, if
one does occur, a replacement of equal caliber can usually be found in
time.
-
If the Guest
Speaker or Consultant cannot complete the engagement on the
contractual dates in the event of a natural disaster, war, acts of
terrorism, serious illness or injury, the League will will find a
suitable replacement. In such cases, the college is not obligated to
pay any expenses incurred by the League until the engagement is
completed.
-
In the event
the Guest Speaker or Consultant cancels the engagement at a date too
late for the League to find a suitable replacement, the League will
reschedule the engagement with the college at a mutually agreed upon
later date. In such cases, the college is not obligated to pay any
expenses incurred by the League for the original engagement. In the
event that the engagement cannot be rescheduled at a mutually agreed
upon future date, the League will offer the college a 10 percent
discount on the next scheduled engagement.
Taping and
Photographing Rights
Guest Speakers
and Consultants may agree to their engagement being taped or
photographed if it is to be used only by the college. Colleges are
asked to get prior permission from the Guest Speaker or Consultant.
