Ricardo D. Torres Named President of the National Student Clearinghouse

Keith Jepsen, chairman of the National Student Clearinghouse board of directors, recently announced the appointment of Ricardo D. Torres as the new president of the Clearinghouse, effective January 1, 2008. Torres succeeds Daniel R. Boehmer, who has served as the Clearinghouse’s president since it was founded in 1993 and retires December 31, 2007. To assist with the transition, Boehmer will remain on retainer with the Clearinghouse for at least six months.
“We conducted a thorough six-month search during which we considered many highly qualified candidates,” said Jepsen, “Rick was the unanimous vote of our search committee and enthusiastically elected by the Clearinghouse board.”
Torres joins the Clearinghouse after a long and distinguished career in the private sector, both in the United States and abroad, including serving as COO at leading organizations such as BestPractices (a nationally recognized provider of emergency medicine and physician practice management), PepsiCo, Philip Morris/Kraft Foods (now known as Altria Group), and Capital One. His diverse background includes positions in financial and strategic planning, marketing and sales, general management, and executive leadership. Torres has an MBA in International Finance from Georgetown University. He currently serves as treasurer and a board member of the John Tyler Community College Foundation and is on the board of Cohesive Knowledge Solutions.
“Rick’s combination of broad corporate and entrepreneurial experience with an increasing focus on mission-driven organizations makes him the right person at the right time for the Clearinghouse,” concluded Jepsen.
“I’m very excited about joining the Clearinghouse and building on the excellent record of performance and trust that Dan Boehmer and his dedicated staff have developed with the higher education and student finance communities over the last 15 years,” said Torres. “I look forward to working with its highly focused and committed management team and the members of the Clearinghouse board in support of our customers and our mission.”
