Request for Proposals:
Community College STEM Curriculum Development Project

The League for Innovation in the Community College invites proposals for participation in its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Curriculum Development Project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Vocational and Adult Education [CFDA #84.051B] under cooperative agreement with the League. The purposes of the STEM project are to (1) ensure the mathematics and science rigor of community college courses in the six STEM-related career clusters (health science, information technology, manufacturing, transportation, STEM, and agriculture); and (2) use effective methods for increasing and maintaining student interest in pursuing and remaining in STEM-related career clusters and STEM fields.

These purposes will be accomplished through the contractor’s development of curriculum projects and other curriculum strategies that the contractor will make available to community colleges for application in their STEM-related career clusters courses. The intention is to ensure the mathematics and science rigor of these courses and encourage students to remain in STEM courses and programs of study and to pursue STEM careers. The contractor will modify the curriculum projects and other curriculum strategies as needed for use in community college general education mathematics and science courses. This will expose students taking mathematics and science courses to the specific career applications of the academic skills they are acquiring and encourage them to pursue careers in STEM-related career fields.

The due date for proposals is August 9, 2007. The grant recipient will be notified by August 31, 2007. The grant period is September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2008. For more information and the full request for proposals, visit http://www.league.org/ccti.
