Recent Publications From the League

Each month, the League publishes Leadership Abstracts, Learning Abstracts, and Innovation Showcase. The most recent editions are available on the League website:

Leadership Abstracts. “Community Colleges as Emergency Shelters: The Alabama Plan,” by Alice W. Villadsen and Bob Romine (March 2007). The authors highlight the Alabama state plan, which brings the Red Cross together with all Alabama community colleges to serve as evacuation centers in the event of emergency. Learn about the plan’s levels of preparation and action, its three-tiered system and transportation procedures, and more, in the March issue of Leadership Abstracts.

Learning Abstracts. “Faculty Development for Getting Results,” from the editor (March 2007). The Getting Results faculty professional development modules, produced by WGBH in Boston with support from the National Science Foundation, have been available to community college faculty for a year, and WGBH and the League want to know what you think. Read more about Getting Results and find out how to provide feedback in the March issue of Learning Abstracts.

Innovation Showcase. “An Unusual Attraction: A Zoo on Campus,” by Julie Garrett (March 2007). Critter-loving students the world over happily bear waiting lists and beastly labor to share in Santa Fe Community College’s teaching zoo. Read how animal magnetism becomes a direct pathway to zookeepership through this wildly successful program, in the March issue of Innovation Showcase.
