The Dead Burying the Dead
Linocut print, 21" x 18"

Artist's Comment: "I've been intrigued with block printing because of its inherent high contrast, texture, and bold images. I want to explore the decorative arts found in my Latin heritage."

Juror's Comment: "Ruth Todd's linocut is called The
Dead Burying the Dead. It has a strong graphic use of black shapes and lines and negative white spaces that move about the surface of the print in a lively and bouncy composition. It relates to much of the symbolism of the Day of the Dead and to Mexican decoration in general, with an energy and vitality that is evocative."
