Creating a College Environment that Appreciates Difference, Strives for Equity, and Encourages Inclusiveness
Several League colleges have as a strategic priority the goal to create a campus environment where diversity is appreciated through the implementation of equitable and inclusive policies, programs, and services that promote student success. This workshop is designed to help college representatives re-examine plans they currently have in place, develop strategies to create plans, and look at new ways of addressing the needs of growing diverse student populations. League representatives from multicampus and single-site colleges in rural, urban, and suburban settings will share their diversity plans and programs with the participants. The plans include processes related to hiring, retaining, and orientating diverse faculty and staff; curriculum development; and policies and practices. Participants in this workshop are encouraged to bring their college plans related to diversity and inclusion, and to be prepared to talk about the challenges they currently face in implementing the programs and services. During the workshop, participants will exchange ideas, learn about strategies currently employed by other colleges, and consider challenges that impede progress in this area. The workshop is designed for administrative and faculty leadership from all levels of the college.
