The growth and maturity of eLearning options now makes it possible to extend access to specialty courses, degrees, and training beyond traditional college service area boundaries to fulfill workforce needs in even the most remote communities. To support such outreach, the League for Innovation in the Community College, with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, has launched Project SAIL (Specialty Asynchronous Industry Learning). Through a network of colleges and industry partners, Project SAIL is a national marketplace promoting access, exchange, and dissemination of specialized industry-driven programs anywhere and anytime for community college students.

The following courses and programs are offered by Project SAIL Partners and available for dissemination and delivery by designated agreement with college representatives and service provisions through the League for Innovation. Description: Community College of Denver’s Online Advanced Placement Nursing Program can be applied to community colleges that wish to increase their capacity to educate nurses through flexible delivery formats. Program Title: Hazardous Waste Site Worker Training (Hazwoper)

Description: The Hazardous Materials and Training Research Institute (HMTRI) was established in 1987 and has long been active in environmental health and safety education and training. This program is a self-paced, open entry, open exit, waste site worker program that meets all the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120, OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Site Worker and Emergency Response Standard. The program consists of an online text, interactive exercises, web links, self-grading quizzes, and final exam. There are two days of face-to face training required to complete the 40-hours for Hazwoper Certification or as a stand-alone course to enhance your skills. Program Title: Funeral Director Program

Description: This certificate program prepares students for licensure as a funeral director and entry-level employment in a funeral establishment in several states. Description: This physical science course introduces the reasons why we have weather and the forces which create specific weather patterns and phenomena. Topics range from global wind and radiation patterns on the macroscale, to thunderstorms and tornadoes on the microscale. Students regularly participate in weather forecasting using daily public weather information. This course has been used to assist with certificates in the field of Naturalist, skills based on requirements with the U.S. Navy, and certificate renewal for high school science teachers.

Program Title: Funeral Management & Merchandising

Description: The practices and procedures of establishing a funeral home are covered including personnel management, vital statistics, records, and forms. Government regulations of OSHA, FTC, and ADA are studied. An in-depth study of merchandising funeral goods including caskets and vaults is covered.

Program Title: Funeral Service Law

Description: This course identifies the methods of disposing of human remains and the legal responsibilities of the funeral director. Principles of both mortuary and business law are covered from the local, state, and federal level. Cemetery regulations, liability, and pre-need are also studied.
