First-Year Experience College of the Sequoias (CA)
http://www.cos.edu/
Through the First Year Experience (FYE) program, College of the Sequoias aspires to create learning environments that both challenge and support first year students. The goal of FYE is to ease student transition to college, improve their success in college course work, and enhance continued enrollment. FYE is the umbrella of student support that includes intrusive counseling, peer mentoring, learning communities, augmented instruction, workshops, and service learning experiences. Counseling and registration processes are taken to feeder high schools. Augmented instruction, a mandatory component of the FYE math course, adds an additional two hours of math with the instructor and tutor each week. Students report that FYE services and resources, support system, and instructor encouragement contribute to their success.
