Learning and Teaching
Every sixth grader from Rutherford and Polk counties - nearly 1,000 of them - spends the day on campus for the Isothermal Science & Technology Expo. The event features 32 interactive exhibits that cover virtually every broad aspect of science and technology. Half of the exhibits are presented by Isothermal faculty, staff, and students, along with personnel from community partners including Duke Energy, Facebook, and KidSenses Children's Museum. The remainder are exhibits designed and executed by high school students, selected from all of the area high schools. Participants also enjoy a performance at the college's performing arts center. This year's act is Garry Krinsky's Toying with Science. Approximately 350 volunteers work as presenters, guides, and runners during the two-year-old event. The Expo has been recognized as one of the top events in the NC Science Festival. From volunteers to participants, the Expo allows all learners to get excited about science and technology.
