Learning and Teaching
The Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College’s (SKYCTC) Workplace Ethics Agreement for the classroom was conceived in partnership with business leaders who were increasingly experiencing poor work performance from new hires, some of whom were our students. The result: The full SKYCTC faculty implemented throughout all classrooms rigorous expectations of students that mirrored those found in the workplace, including being present and punctual, participating in academic activities, and maintaining professional behavior. Since the implementation of the agreement, SKYCTC has experienced more passing grades, increased retention, a reduction in classroom behavioral issues, a decrease in Return-to-Title IV funds, student testimonials reporting increased motivation, and virtually non-existent tardiness. Industry is very pleased, reporting that SKYCTC students exhibit behaviors identified in the Workplace Ethics Agreement and are notably better prepared for the workplace.
