Student Services and Activities
San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) was one of the first higher educational institutions of its kind in California to offer Stop the Hate training as an onsite professional development opportunity to administrators, faculty, staff, and students. An initial group of 30 attended a three-day intense training to help fight bias and hate crimes on SDCE campuses. Armed with the knowledge, the group of 30 trained an additional 100 faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, as a result of the training a special team was developed to support and assist the President’s Office and College Police with a response to a bias incident or hate crime committed within the SDCE community. Members of the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) now help with the prevention of bias incidents and hate crimes. When an incident happens, the team is also prepared to accept and review responses about incidents and provide support to victims.
