Workforce Preparation and Development
As part of the Applied English and Communication course, Networking Day prepares students for the rigorous application process of public service agencies through structured interaction with agency recruiters. Students engage in a thorough self-assessment and conduct research, preparing for thoughtful interaction with 15 agencies. On Networking Day, they interact with all agencies, then choose five upon which to report. They explore employment options they may not otherwise consider. In a preceding course, students create a personal mission, values, and vision; business cards; and website and ePortfolio, which is accessible to recruiters through an online public safety community. Agency recruiters are also accessible to students, a living source of recruitment and agency information. This is an effective and highly innovative project linking Policing Diploma graduates to potential employers. The response from both students and recruiters has been extremely positive.
