Learning and Teaching
The ACTioN Project: All My Patients was first implemented in the spring of 2012. It provides a unique quality learning experience to associate degree nursing students and provides real performance opportunities for student actors. The project has expanded to include film and video production students. The project does not incur additional cost, as it uses existing resources and scheduled class time. Student actors portray patients with mental health disorders while interacting with nursing students in a simulated scenario. The scenario is filmed by video production students; faculty then utilize the film to provide quality debriefing experiences with the student nurses and actors. Post simulation assessments show high student satisfaction with the learning experience. Nursing and acting students report working with students from other majors is beneficial. Faculty have been enriched by the collaborative effort.
